 Article --  Before introducing more about argument, we will read today "How to Lose the War on Terror"  since it is very relevant to this week's events.   In a second reading you will write 15 questions and answers to your questions in the margin -- write 5 questions for the second, third, and fourth page.  At the end of the article, state the argument of the article.

Today we begin ORAL BOOK REVIEWS.  I will collect the form that you completed.  We will finish the oral presentations on Friday.

1.  Book Review:  The third book review for this semester will be an ORAL REVIEW of the book.  We will begin tomorrow and finish on finals day. (Period 1 will be on January 25th  and Period 5 will be on January 27th).  
     Today, I will give you time in class to prepare for the oral review.

2.  Malala's Nobel Peace Prize Speech -- On Friday you read the text of this speech and annotated it for rhetorical devices.  It was collected on Friday.

Essay on Twelve Angry Men -- I would like to give you today to finish your essay.  I know that it might be difficult to return your thinking to this play given the time that has elapsed since you worked on it -- difficult but not impossible.  Please wrap this essay up today.  If you can't finish in class, finish at home if possible.  I would like to get started on a new unit of study tomorrow that hopefully we will finish before the end of the semester.

Today:  To ease back into our return to school and to observe the beginning of a new year, we will read a poem that impresses upon us the need for peace in our world.  Now more than ever this poem speaks to us.
