Debate Topic Research

Good Morning!
Please put your cell phones completely out of sight for the FULL duration of the class.  Please do not have me remind you of this. NOTE: Please bring a book to class vs. reading a book on your phone.

1. CHROMEBOOKS -- Please get your assigned Chromebook when you arrive.

2. Debate Topic -- Your preparation for the debate requires research for evidence to support your position.

Be sure to record the information from the site that you used. A good way to do that is to create a document and name it "Works Cited."   Use easybib.com to get the proper MLA formatted citation.  The following is an example:

Koseffakoseff@sacbee.com, Alexei. "California Senate Gives 10 Percent Raises to 71 Employees to Close Gender Pay Gap." Sacbee. N.p., n.d. Web. 15 Feb. 2017.

NOTE:  We should be ready to begin the debates by next THURSDAY.

Be sure to record the information from the site that you used. A good way to do that is to create a document and name it "Works Cited."  Then paste the citation information into that document. Your group has made a decision about who will take the PRO and CON positions.  Today we will begin the research.

1.  Independent  Reading -- Please read for a bit before we get started.

2.  Articles -- We have read three articles that have been on very current issues.  These articles have presented an argument and you are free to differ in your position.  However, before doing that it is important that you know what the text is saying -- to be able to identify main ideas.  THEN (and only then) are you appropriately equipped to make a counter-argument.  The assignments that I have asked you to do have been to recognize these main ideas -- to be accurately knowledgeable of the issue from a particular position.
