     Write your name on the slip of paper inside the bag.
     *If you have a cell phone in your possession, it must be
       placed in the bag.  First, turn it off.
3.  When I pass out the answer document and test booklet write
      your name on the test booklet and double-check the name on 
      the answer document to be sure it is yours.
4.  In Sec 1 on the answer document print your first and last
     names.  In the box that says "Test Examiner," print my name:
     Baltrushes.  In the box that says "School," print Point Loma
     High.  For "District," print SDUSD.   

If you finish early, please keep your test on your desk and take out your independent reading book.

Introduction to Oedipus the King

I hope that you had an enjoyable weekend!

1.  Independent Reading -- Last week I did not emphasize to you to have today your third independent reading book for this semester.  Please make your selection this week.  If you have not selected a book from the recommended list, please do so for this final grading period.

2. Prentice Hall Literature -- today you will complete an assignment in preparation for reading Oedipus the King.  Complete the questions on the handout.  You will store your textbook in the classroom (as I have explained).

Essay Editing

NOTE: I finished grading your book reviews last night.  I will not look at my spreadsheet again nor will any late work be accepted on this last day of the grading period. 

Today, you will continue fine tuning your essay on Night.  Some of you have truly done an impressive job!  In that case, you may work on something else QUIETLY.  I would like the opportunity to help students with their essays. This essay will be on the final grading period.

Proofread your essays for the following:                      
                       * Mechanical correctness,including HEADING.  Be
                          sure to double space your essay.
                       * Thesis in introduction
                       * Evidence to support thesis in body paragraphs.
                       * Properly introducing quoted material and citing
                          the quotes.
                       * Insightful commentary
                       * Conclusion which is all your commentary 
                          (your insights, opinions, feelings, etc.)

Yesterday, I had a chance to look at your essays on Night.  It looks like you really need to revisit them before I proceed to grade them.  I will be grading the essays for the following: 
                       * Mechanical correctness,including HEADING.  Be
                          sure to double space your essay.
                       * Thesis in introduction
                       * Evidence to support thesis in body paragraphs.
                       * Properly introducing quoted material and citing
                          the quotes.
                       * Insightful commentary
                       * Conclusion which is all your commentary 
                          (your insights, opinions, feelings, etc.)

*"Doctor My Eyes" -- This song is one of the texts in the unit on human nature in a study on the Holocaust.  Please do the following:
                * Number each stanza
                * On a separate piece of paper that I will give you
                   explain the meaning of each stanza.
